Last weekend (September 1, 2012) was the wedding of my cousin Lisa! It was absolutely stunning. A beautiful day and a gorgeous venue to host such a monumentis occasion.

I went over to her place in Scarborough because she had chosen me to be her makeup artist – flattering! Also, Lisa really liked my up-do for a wedding a couple years back and asked who I’d recommend for her big day. Right off the bat, I told her my hairstylist, Kim, whom I’ve known for years now. He came over around 9a.m. and did an impressive up-do on her and put some lovely curls on mine too boot! I really only trust him to do my hair. I have a tad anxiety when it comes to anyone coming close to me with cutting shears, especially if they’ve never touched my hair before! As ridiculous as this sounds, sadly. It’s the truth.

After a few last minute things we picked up at the mall, lunch being served and a few last minute checklists the bride needed to complete, we had about a hour and a half before the limo would come to pick us up. It was my time to shine and I got my kit ready to start her makeup. We had done a couple of trial runs before to see what type of look she was going for and all that. I have to admit, because Lisa uses and requested for more organic makeup, it  posed a bit of an obstacle for me but, I’m always up for a good challenge. When she saw herself in the mirror she had told me it was exactly what she was going for - I was overjoyed that she loved it so much.

We got into the limo and was wooshed to the venue. After a few touch ups and also doing the makeup for her maid of honor, it was time for the ceremony! A wedding of  about 150 guest, it was an intimate wedding that I felt honored being a part of. Tons of food, free flowing alcohol and all the cousins sitting at one table makes for a great  night. Congrats again to Lisa & Moe – may you live happily ever after. xo

love myself.

A very typical ‘me’ outfit. I’m all about the layering and masculine touches with that slight feminine look. Adding the subtle edge to the look with the prettiest shoes from Steve Madden and of course no outfit is finished for me without some finger jewelry! So much of my wardrobe has been taken over by Aritzia clothes because I worked there for about two years and was pretty gaga over them a few years before that. But since broadening my style a bit, I've really tried to push myself to explore other stores and intermingle my once Aritzia wardrobe to fit my more mature/unique/individualistic style. Hopefully you'll be able to see that in upcoming posts.

it's the start of something good.

Well hello there, My name is Jess and I love everything fashion, make-up and beauty!
I can honestly say I am a self-proclaimed makeup junkie! From as long as I can remember I have loved it. My obsession grew from just an interest to a full-blown time-sucker a couple of years ago. I started watching YouTube beauty channels and realized that learning beauty wasn’t all about taking courses or going to cosmetology school but learning from other ‘regular’ girls. There are even some professionals to learn from, all through the web. From looking up new beauty Youtuber’s, watching their videos, being on different websites for different companies and looking up different/new/cult products, I knew this obsession was much more than a hobby!
Now with fashion it’s a tad different. Though I do love a good trend every once and a while (color denim, statement necklaces, colour blocking etc.), I’m not as into all the fashion trends. Nor do I run out to buy the latest thing if it doesn’t suit my own personal taste. That being said, I take inspirations from the blogs I read, people on the streets and obviously my friends. I would say, although I enjoy getting dolled up and looking fancy every once and a while, I am definitely more of a dressed down kind of girl – as long as I’m dressed down with style! I like adding that feminine edge to an outfit, and my own twist on things. Because I draw from so many places and inspirations, I couldn’t even tell you what my own style is! It’s hard to pinpoint. For that matter it is hard for me to say what this blog will fully consist of. But there are a couple things I do know….
Finding myself these past couple of years has defined not just my style or my confidence in my own style (whatever it is!), but also it has made me more comfortable in my own skin. So with that, I would like to use this platform to showcase anything from my inspirations, to my aspirations, to the very LIFE of me and all that is in between.
Enjoy. xx

infinite love.

My most recent Tattoo. I realized the last couple years have been a whirlwind of various emotions - fear, overcoming obstacles – the odds and turn of events that I thought I would not have been able to conquer. But alas, here I am. Though these couple years have been difficult, I believe I’ve grown the most this past half a year. One of them would be getting over a break up - showing myself I can be independent and not rely so much on others and the recognition that I can do anything that I place my mind to. It feels pretty great.
Super empowering. I’ve grown stronger.

I know myself better than I ever have been. And one things for sure, I will not change myself for anyone. My giving nature is who I am, and all those endless quirks that make me, me. The one thing I’ve learned this year is love yourself before you love anyone else. Who will love you or respect you if you bend at the will of others. Stand up for yourself because honestly, who else will. Love the people that appreciate you for who you are and not the person they believe you are. Love what you’re doing: whether it be the education you’re receiving, the career you’re working towards or the hobby you may have at the moment. Give it your all. Be determined. And be passionate. So what ever you’re doing or who you’re doing it with. Infinite Love.
